Berry Riesling Sauce

Yield: 4 cups (16 1/4-cup portions)

Blackberries or blueberries 4 1/2 cups
Riesling wine 4 1/2 cups
Granulated sugar 1 1/2 cups
Lemon zest 3 long strips
Anise seed 1 tsp.

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients in heavy saucepan. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cook until berries are completely soft, 8-10 minutes.
  2. Press mixture through strainer. Serve chilled with lemon sorbet, angel food cake or other dessert. Refrigerate unused portion up to several days in covered container.
