Why do hotel rooms have bibles?
The organization, Gideon International, was formed in 1899 after three traveling salesmen met in a hotel room, and by 1908, it was distributing Bibles to hotels around the United States. Members of Gideon International often met with the managers of new hotels, presented them with a free copy of the Bible, and offered to equip every room in the hotel with a copy. This was the beginning of ‘hotel Bible’.- according to Los Angeles Times
The Gideons published that bible but it is a Christian Bible as it is normally printed for the Christians. It is placed in motels across America and Canada and people can have them for free. The Gideons are missionaries in charge of distributing those bibles in different businesses.
In most hotels, the ‘Gideons’ supply them. This is an interdenominational Christian organization that exists to get the Bible into the hands of as many people as possible. So, they print up lots and lots of cheap ones and give them out as gift items. (The next time you’re in a hotel, steal it. It’s okay. You won’t burn inHell. They actually want you to.)
